I’m VERY excited that the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux (UGCB) will be returning to Miami in January: 80+ leading producers from Bordeaux will be sharing a preview of the 2022 vintage, which is widely regarded as one of the best of the modern era. Wine professionals are welcome to register for the trade portion. A separate session will be held for consumers in the evening – Total Wine is running that one.
Ahead of the main trade tasting, I will be hosting a discussion with Lilian Barton Sartorius (Léoville Barton) and Stephan Von Neipperg (Canon la Gafellière). The conversation will focus on interpretation of vintage in Bordeaux. We’ll compare the 2022 wines with two back vintages (Leoville Barton 2012 and Canon la Gafellière 2016), and talk about how vintage characteristics, as well as evolving practices in the vineyard and winery, are influencing styles of top Bordeaux wines today. This session is for professional fine wine buyers, who can request a spot when registering.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Bordeaux was the region that got me into fine wine and I still think it’s the greatest wine region in the world: history, production, consistency of quality, and yes, innovation. I also think its wines transmit time – vintage variation, ageability, stylistic shifts – better than anywhere else.
